19 of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player claimed his initial championship for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has endured a difficult season, winning just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first championship since the Rome competition and initial on a hard court from spring of that year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my children together, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

His defensive strategy and regular emotional displays on court had led commentators to question if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair traded breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial tour title, gained dominance to push for a third set.

He saved four early-game opportunities in a close third set before the champion won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
